Industrial drives & automation: choosing the components

Industrial control equipment divides into control, communication, isolation, sensing, the power stage and the physical layer of connectors and HMI. This guide shows which J.P. Electronics manufacturer lines serve each block.

Which of our lines serves each block?

BlockOur linesWhat decides the choice
ControlNXP Microchip GeehyPerformance, functional safety, longevity of supply
Industrial communicationsNovosense NXPRS-485, CAN or industrial Ethernet, isolation
IsolationNovosense Everlight CosmoWorking voltage, CMTI, channel count
SensingAllegro MicroSystems Novosense Same SkyCurrent, position, pressure or ultrasonic
Power stageNavitas Taiwan Semiconductor Good Ark Bus voltage, switching profile, thermal design
Connectors & HMICLAF KLS AV Display Yeebo Same SkyVibration, mating cycles, panel requirements

What matters most in an industrial design that consumer designs ignore?

Lifetime. Industrial equipment ships for a decade or more, so supply longevity, second sources and honest lifecycle notices matter as much as the electrical specification. That is a distribution question as much as a design question, and it is where we do our best work.

Isolated or non-isolated comms?

Any RS-485 or CAN link that leaves the cabinet earns isolation. Ground offsets between cabinets kill transceivers slowly and intermittently, which is the most expensive kind of failure to find.
