What usually fails first in an LED driver?
The electrolytic capacitor, from ripple current at temperature. Capacitor choice and thermal layout decide driver lifetime more than any semiconductor does, which is why the passives on the BOM deserve the same attention as the controller.
Isolated or non-isolated driver?
Class II luminaires with no user-touchable metal can use non-isolated topologies and save cost. Anything a person can touch during relamping needs isolation. The standard applicable in the target market decides, before any component does.
